Bengals avoid TV blackout
By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Bengals-Steelers game Sunday was declared a sellout late Friday afternoon, even though tickets are still available, and will be shown at 1p.m. on Channel 12.
Based on current demand, we can project a complete sellout and are able to meet NFL guidelines to clear the game for local television, Bengals ticket manager Paul Kelly said.
The team did not say how many tickets were available.
The Bengals received a one-day extension of the 1p.m. Thursday TV blackout deadline because of the holiday week and because the club was close to selling out.
It is the second time this season the team has avoided the TV blackout. The other was Oct.14, vs. Cleveland.
The Bengals had two sellout games Chicago and Tennessee which were too late to be shown on local TV.
The NFL lifted the blackout rules for the Sept.23 games because they were the first played after the Sept.11 terrorist attacks.
Call 621-8383 or 562-4949 for tickets.
