Jackson hits career milestone
By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Bengals offensive lineman John Jackson, a 1983 Woodward High School graduate, played in his 200th NFL game Sunday against Jacksonville.
Jackson is the 171st player in NFL history to reach the milestone.
It's a lot of games, said Jackson, 36. I take pride in it. I just wish we could have won today, it would have been sweeter.
Seven times in his 14-year career, Jackson started and played in the entire 16-game season. His career began when the Pittsburgh Steelers made him a 10th-round draft pick in 1988 out of Eastern Kentucky.
My senior year at college, I thought I had a shot. That's all I wanted, he said. If you would have told me when I was graduating I would have played in 200 NFL games, I would have told you you were crazy. But I've been really fortunate and blessed to play as long as I've had.
He started five games for the Bengals in 2000, his first season in his hometown. His first start was the Denver game, when Corey Dillon set an NFL single-game rushing record with 278 yards.
He knows the end is near, but until it arrives, he wants to play. He's in the first year of a two-year contract.
Right now I'm not even thinking about that stage, he said when asked about possible retirement. When that door opens itself, I'll sit down and evaluate where I am.
