Bob Bedinghaus has a new office inside the football stadium he helped build.

        Mr. Bedinghaus is the former Hamilton County commissioner and perhaps the person most responsible for getting Paul Brown Stadium built and opened in 2000. He was voted out of office that same year, primarily because of $51 million in construction overruns.

        The Bengals have retained Mr. Bedinghaus as a consultant on stadium and riverfront development issues, said team spokesman Jack Brennan. Mr. Bedinghaus is employed by Holland Communications, a Cincinnati-based consulting firm.

        Mr. Brennan declined to say what specifically Mr. Bedinghaus is advising the team on. But he did say Mr. Bedinghaus is not an employee of the Bengals.

        “That's all we're going to say about it,” Mr. Brennan said.

        Mr. Bedinghaus, who did not return phone messages left at his home seeking comment, is indeed knowledgeable about the stadium and riverfront development.

        The rebirth of the riverfront was Mr. Bedinghaus' legacy as a county commissioner, at least until the stadium dust settled at $51 million over budget.

        He lost a bitter re-election campaign against Cincinnati City Councilman Todd Portune, who made the stadium overruns a major issue.

        Bengals owner Mike Brown and his family contributed heavily to the Bedinghaus campaign, as did Reds owner Carl Lindner.

        The Brown and Lindner families gave more than $157,000 to Mr. Bedinghaus or the Republican Party.
