Suspended Glenn to appeal

The Associated Press

FOXBORO, Mass. — New England Patriots receiver Terry Glenn says he'll appeal his latest suspension after missing practice in a dispute with coach Bill Belichick over a hamstring injury.

Glenn previously has been in dispute with the team over a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy and the withholding of a bonus.

Glenn told the Boston Globe he was willing to drop his grievances against the Patriots if he can go elsewhere.

“I don't need a big contract,” said Glenn. “I'd rather be happy than make a lot of money. I'm not happy here.”

Glenn, who missed the past six games with the injury, was suspended Thursday for one game by Belichick. The two “had words” on the practice field Wednesday, Glenn told the Globe.

For the first time in seven weeks, the Patriots had upgraded Glenn to probable on their injury report, but Glenn showed up for practice in sweats and headphones and without a helmet. Glenn said doctors and trainers never told him he was cleared to practice, and he never reported that he was ready, he told the Globe.

“The only one I heard it from was Belichick,” said Glenn, who has played in one of New England's 11 games. “I guess he's a doctor now.”

Glenn was not available Friday for comment. The Patriots did not return calls.

        PACKERS:

The team waived quarterback Henry Burris and signed safety Matt Bowen.

Bowen started two games and played in every game last season while with St. Louis. Burris was the Packers' No.3 quarterback for every game this season but never played.

        THURSDAY'S GAME:

Philadelphia used two fortuitous kicks to snap out of its offensive slump in a 23-10 win over Kansas City.

The Eagles had an onside kick on the opening kickoff and later recovering their own blocked punt to take a 10-0 lead.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb threw two touchdown passes for Philadelphia.

McNabb threw a pass to Duce Staley with 11:35 to play in the first half, and the running back broke three tackles for a 46-yard touchdown and a 10-0 lead. McNabb threw a 1-yard TD pass to rookie Tony Stewart for a 20-3 lead with 8:09 left in the third quarter.
