Bengals plan on facing McNair

Titans at Bengals

By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Friday he is not sure if quarterback Steve McNair will play Sunday against the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium.

McNair, who has a soft-tissue injury in his right thumb, did some light throwing Friday on the sidelines but did not practice.

Bengals coach Dick LeBeau said he is confident his team will face McNair, who has won seven of the nine times he has played against the Bengals, and not backup and former Bengals quarterback Neil O'Donnell.

“He'll play,” LeBeau said. “No question.”

McNair took some snaps from center Bruce Matthews, but McNair said his injured thumb continues to cause him a great deal of pain.

McNair hoped to throw 15- to 20-yard passes today and will try to take more snaps, which is more painful than throwing because of where the thumb is injured.

He was injured during the second quarter of Monday night's 16-10 loss to Baltimore. McNair played the entire game. Examinations earlier in the week revealed no structural damage.
