Bengals notebook
McNair expected to play
By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair, who has a soft-tissue injury in his right thumb, did not practice or throw Thursday for the second consecutive day.
He is listed as questionable on the injury report but is expected to play Sunday.
McNair injured his thumb Monday night against Baltimore and had a cast put on it Tuesday to immobilize it. The cast was replaced by a removable splint Wednesday.
McNair has had great success against the Bengals. He has played nine games against them seven of them starts and has thrown 15 touchdown passes and run for four more. He has completed 58.8 percent of his passes against the Bengals and has been intercepted only twice in 221 attempts.
The Oilers/Titans are 7-2 against the Bengals in McNair's games.
The thing about him is he's always got his team in the game, Bengals quarterback Jon Kitna said. He can beat you in a number of different ways. He can beat you making plays on his own when you think you've got him sacked. He's somewhat like Doug Flutie in that respect.
Another injured Titans offensive star is tight end Frank Wycheck (ankle). He also is listed as questionable and didn't practice Thursday. But he, too, is expected to play Sunday.
NO SELLOUT:
The Bengals-Titans game will not be broadcast on live television. It did not sell out by the 1 p.m. Thursday deadline.
INJURY UPDATE:
Bengals rookie wide receiver Chad Johnson (broken collarbone) is listed as questionable. Defensive tackle Glen Steele (groin) was added to the report Thursday and is listed as probable.
GOOD BUDDIES:
Bengals linebacker Takeo Spikes and Titans linebacker Randall Godfrey are friends who work at each other's summer football camps.
I think we both consider ourselves underappreciated guys, at least to some people, who just try to work hard, Godfrey said.
Each leads his team in tackles this season.
SECURITY CHECKS:
Several fans brought prohibited items to the last home game at Paul Brown Stadium, and the Bengals want fans to be aware of restrictions at the gates.
Carry-in items are restricted. Coolers, backpacks and fanny packs are not permitted. Small purses are permitted but must fit inside a box that measures 8 1/2 by 11 by 4 inches.
All permitted carry-in items will be subject to visual search.
People bringing prohibited items to the stadium gates will be required to take those items back to their cars.
