Kitna rolls 300
Bengals Notebook
By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Jon Kitna's 300-yard game was the first by a Bengals quarterback since Jeff Blake threw for 334 yards Dec. 5, 1999 in a victory against San Francisco at Cinergy Field.
The Bengals had gone 26 games without a 300-yard passing day.
Kitna was 28-for-48 passing for 303 yards with one interception. He was sacked four times and fumbled three times without losing one. He now has eight interceptions and eight touchdown passes and has thrown for 1,609 yards. He also now has thrown for an average of 201 yards a game.
LONG BOOT: Neil Rackers' 52-yard field goal at the end of the first half was the longest of his career, and it tied as the fourth longest in Bengals history.
Chris Bahr kicked a pair of 52-yarders, one each in 1978 and '79. Barr also has the franchise best at 55 yards on Sept. 23, 1979 against Houston.
INJURY REPORT: Guard Matt O'Dwyer had to leave the game in the second quarter with a ligament sprain in his left knee. He did not return and is expected to miss the next two to four weeks. He was to have an MRI Sunday night after the team returned home from Jacksonville.
Three other new injuries: tight end Tony McGee (knee), linebacker Takeo Spikes (groin) and linebacker Adrian Ross (shoulder) are probable for Tennessee.
HEROES: Several New York City firefighters and their families were guests of the Jaguars and were recognized with a standing ovation on the field before Sunday's games. Jaguars players and coaches ran to midfield to shake hands with the firefighters.
NOD: Associated Press NFL writer Dave Goldberg has picked Dick LeBeau as the coach of the year for the first half of the season.
Always goes to coaches who turn around bad teams. So ... Dick LeBeau, Cincinnati, who gets this vote over Butch Davis of Cleveland and Dick Jauron of Chicago, the obvious front-runner, Goldberg writes. Reason? LeBeau works for a team where the front-office will spend only what it must to reach the minimum salary-cap figure.
THERMAL CHANGE: The last time the Bengals and Jaguars played, the temperature was 9 degrees with a minus-20 wind chill Dec. 17 at Paul Brown Stadium. Sunday it was 73 de grees.
