Lee Johnson's on shaky footing

Pat's coach Belichick considers options

The Associated Press

After a record 1,187 punts in 18 NFL seasons, Lee Johnson doesn't get discouraged over a bad game.

Johnson, whose fourth-quarter fumble gave San Diego a 10-point lead over the New England Patriots on Sunday, is confident he will snap out of his slump. But the former Bengal isn't sure coach Bill Belichick will give him time to do it.

Johnson, who also holds the NFL record for punting yards, was still around on Monday, but Belichick said he was planning to bring in Dan Hadenfeldt, who was cut during training camp, for a tryout this week.

“The punting wasn't good. It hasn't been good,” Belichick said a day after New England's 29-26 overtime win. “We just can't give away points like that.”

        RAMS:

Marshall Faulk hasn't been ruled out of Sunday's game against the New York Jets despite a bruised right knee.

“He really could possibly play this week,” coach Mike Martz said. “We're not going to completely rule out the possibility of him playing.

        JAGUARS:

Left tackle Tony Boselli had successful surgery on his right shoulder and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

        BRONCOS:

Quarterback Brian Griese is questionable for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers, although tests showed no structural damage in his right shoulder.

        VIKINGS:

Wide receiver Randy Moss is listed as questionable for this week's game against Green Bay because of an ankle injury.

Coach Dennis Green said Moss, who has just 21 catches, slightly aggravated the ankle Sunday against Detroit.
