Bears planning to re-sign Matthews

By Cincinnati Enquirer

CHICAGO — Chicago Bears coach Dick Jauron said Monday the team plans to re-sign quarterback Shane Matthews this week.

Matthews was released last week so the team could sign emergency long snapper Ryan Benjamin for Sunday's game against Arizona.

Jauron said Matthews was consulted before the move and agreed to it to help the team since he was going to be the third quarterback Sunday.

The starter at the beginning of the season, Matthews hurt a muscle near his rib cage in a game against the Minnesota Vikings three weeks ago.
