Key Matchup
Bengals' Cory Hall Vs. Steelers' Jerome Bettis
Stop Jerome Bettis, and beat the Steelers. Other teams put their strong safety on featured running back Corey Dillon, so why not move Bengals strong safety Cory Hall closer to the line to key on Bettis?
Hall has 17 tackles (nine solo) the past two games. He's a tough 213 pounds. He suffered a concussion in the first quarter last year at Pittsburgh a 15-0 Bengals' loss in Game 6 and didn't regain his starting job until preseason.
In Week 2 against Baltimore, Hall had a 72-yard return of a fumble recovery.
Bettis had 114 yards rushing on 22 attempts last week at Buffalo and will get the ball at least that much today against the Bengals. The Steelers like to run him north-south, off the tackles.
Bettis has run for 100 or more yards in seven of his 10 Steelers games against the Bengals; five of the seven were Pittsburgh victories. Bettis needs just 54 yards today to reach 10,000.
Bettis is even more important to the Steelers offense this season. While ranked second in the league in rushing at 145 yards, the Steelers are 29th in passing at 130.5 yards. Stop Bettis, and win.
