Smith faces yet another deadline

Can take offer through today

By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Jim Steiner, the agent for Justin Smith, has the rest of today to accept the Bengals' current contract offer to his client. After today, Day 51 of the rookie defensive end's holdout, everything changes. Real games start Sunday.

“I wish I had more to report,” said Katie Blackburn, Bengals executive vice president.

Blackburn, the team's primary contract negotiator, has not spoken with Steiner since Aug.30, when she got mad at him on the phone before the Bengals' final preseason game against Indianapolis.
