Highlands' Moore back with Patriots
By Michael Perry
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Marty Moore has gone from Mr. Irrelevant to Mr. Dependable.
The Highlands High School graduate returns home this weekend as a member of the New England Patriots, the team for which he played during the first six years of his NFL career.
Moore, the last pick of the 1994 NFL draft, played for Cleveland last year, but was released by the Browns on Aug. 27. The Patriots signed him the next day, released Moore last Sunday as a procedural move to reach the 53-man roster limit, then signed him again Tuesday after they cut defensive end Greg Spires.
Marty's a real solid player, said New England coach Bill Belichick, who was the team's assistant head coach in 1996 when Moore was on the Patriots. He's dependable. He's a real tough, smart guy. He plays well in the kicking game. He's a solid inside linebacker who can give us some depth at that position. I think he has a good air and a good confidence about him.
The 6-foot-1, 245-pound linebacker who attended the University of Kentucky begins his eighth season in the league Sunday against the Bengals.
BUDDY LEE: Moore and Norwood High School graduate Marc Edwards aren't the only Patriots with ties to the area.
Lee Johnson, the Bengals' punter for 11 years, begins his 17th NFL season. He holds the league record with 1,163 career punts and he's just 43 yards behind Rohn Stark for career yardage.
This is Johnson's third season with New England.
