Bengals Notebook
Third-round pick may need surgery
By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
GEORGETOWN, Ky. Rookie tight end Sean Brewer, the team's third-round draft choice, might face surgery to correct what could be a sports hernia. A sports hernia occurs lower than the normal abdominal hernia.
Frustrating is not even the word to describe what I'm going through right now, Brewer said. I'm trying to make the best of a bad situation. I haven't done anything when it has counted.
He hasn't played in the two preseason games or practiced in more than two weeks.
If surgery is needed, Brewer would miss six to eight weeks.
INJURY REPORT: For the Aug.25 Buffalo game, offensive tackle Freddie Moore (knee), safety Darryl Williams (ankle) and fullback Nick Williams (knee) are out.
Brewer is doubtful. Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (foot) and linebacker Brian Simmons (shoulder) are questionable. Wide receiver Damon Griffin (hamstring) and quarterback Akili Smith (shoulder) are probable.
UP NEXT: The Bengals will practice twice Monday, but they are closed to the public. Camp will reopen to fans Tuesday and Wednesday (11a.m. to noon and 3-5p.m.) and Thursday (7-9p.m.). Camp will close a week from today.
