GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Jon Kitna will get the first snaps during this afternoon's scrimmage, followed by Scott Mitchell and Akili Smith.

Coach Dick LeBeau said the job will not be lost today, but “some people can do some things to get a leg up toward winning it.”

Scott Covington will be quarterback during the final 10-play quarter.

Kitna, Smith and Mitchell again had an equal number of practice snaps Friday.

The team ran a two-minute drill for the first time, and because he was more efficient completing passes downfield, Mitchell had fewer overall snaps. Smith and Kitna each threw incomplete passes at the start of their drills.

INJURY REPORT: Tight end Marco Battaglia, who had knee surgery Thursday, expects to be running again in a week to 10 days.

Four others will miss the scrimmage: offensive tackle Freddie Moore (knee), wide receiver Danny Farmer (hamstring), defensive end Kevin Henry (elbow) and wide receiver Ramondo North (oral surgery). Listed as doubtful are wide receivers Malcolm Johnson (knee) and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (hamstring). Questionable are wide receiver Ron Dugans (hamstring) and cornerback Rodney Heath (knee). Probable is linebacker Calvin Lewis (ankle).

Offensive tackle John Jackson did not practice Friday but is expected to play today.

UP NEXT: Players will take the field for the scrimmage at 12:55 p.m., followed by drills. The 45-play scrimmage will run from 1:50-2:45 p.m. Parking is $10, and gates will open at 10:30 a.m.

The offense will get six points for a touchdown, three points for a field goal and one point for a point after touchdown (no two-point conversions).

The defense will get two points for forcing a punt or field goal attempt and four points for forcing a turnover.

RULES CLARIFICATION: NFL game official Scott Dawson and league spokesman Dan Masonson clarified Friday one aspect of the NFL's renewed emphasis on sportsmanship that Dawson had referred to Thursday. Officials can call a penalty on a group celebration, but only if it includes obscene or sexually suggestive gestures.

SCHEDULE: The Georgetown College complex will be closed Sunday. The schedule for Monday-Wednesday is gates open at 10, skills from 11 a.m.-noon and practice from 3-5 p.m. The Bengals will have their first night practice from 7-9 p.m. Thursday with gates opening at 6 p.m. Post-practice fireworks are scheduled.

Camp will be closed Friday. The Bengals play their first preseason game at 8:05 p.m. Aug. 4 at Chicago.
