LeBeau rewards team: No sprints

By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Bengals coach Dick LeBeau didn't make the team run sprints after Monday's afternoon practice.

“They earned it,” LeBeau said, “or they wouldn't have got it.”

LeBeau kept the team 20 minutes longer in the morning session to make up for the morning session that was canceled Sunday because of a thunderstorm.

Six players stayed out and ran voluntarily Monday: kicker Richie Cunningham and safeties Cory Hall, Chris Carter, Darryl Williams, JoJuan Armour and Gary Thompkins.

The entire 11-man wide receiver corps also stayed late to catch passes. Veteran Darney Scott, who reported no problems with his left leg, told the group they would run routes and catch balls because they dropped too many passes during practice.

Quarterbacks John Kitna, Akili Smith and Scott Covington threw to them.

“I didn't have to say a word,” wide receivers coach Steve Mooshagian said. “That's what was missing last year. Only Darnay could do that.”

INJURY REPORT: Tight end Sean Brewer (mild concussion) and guard Matt O'Dwyer (mild left ankle sprain) are day-to-day. Defensive lineman Glen Steele (ankle) is expected to practice today, and free agent safety Jared Lee (hamstring) is expected back Wednesday.
