Ex-Vikings tackle to visit

By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Though there were no free agent signings Friday, the Bengals scheduled another visit and will entertain former Minnesota left tackle Todd Steussie on Monday.

Steussie, 30, was a salary cap cut Wednesday after turning down a reported $4 million, one-year deal.

Steussie also has received feelers from Cleveland and Tampa Bay. He's 6-foot-6, 308 pounds, and is known for his durability and leadership.

“He's experienced. He's powerful. He's in shape,” Jim Lippincott, Bengals director or pro/college player personnel. The Bengals also have an offer on the table to former Packers offensive lineman Ross Verba, and they are hoping either he or Steussie can fill a hole at left tackle created by Rod Jones' inconsistent play last season.

Steussie will be joined by former Bears cornerback Walt Harris on Monday. They will be the 18th and 19th free agents to visit Paul Brown Stadium since March 2.

Having failed to sign former Titans defensive end Kenny Holmes, who signed with the Giants, the Bengals on Friday also contacted the agent for former Giants defensive end Cedric Jones.

CUNNINGHAM SIGNED: The team agreed to contract terms with free agent kicker Richie Cunningham.

The deal is for two years with Cunningham, 30, who last played for Carolina in 2000.

He was with the Panthers for four games and was 5-for-7 on field goals and 9-for-9 on extra points before being waived Oct.3.

Cunningham will compete with second-year kicker Neil Rackers, who made only 12 of 21 field goal attempts.
