The Bengals are continuing to negotiate with former Denver quarterback Gus Frerotte, and there was hope inside the organization that a deal could be reached today.
Former Seattle quarterback Jon Kitna, Redskins defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield (Taylor High School) and Atlanta center Evan Pilgrim will visit the Bengals today.
Kitna arrived Tuesday night with his wife, Jennifer, and his agent, Carl A. Taylor-Lopez, and they were scheduled to enter a late-night negotiating session with Troy Blackburn, the team's director of business development, who is handling quarterbacks.
The Bengals have inquired about Trent Dilfer, an unrestricted free agent who led the Ravens to the Super Bowl title but won't return to Baltimore.
Brown wants to go to training camp with four quarterbacks competing for the starting role. Former starter Akili Smith will be in the mix, and look for him to be challenged by one or more free agent acquisitions and a rookie, possibly middle-round draft picks such as Mike McMahon of Rutgers or Sage Rosenfels of Iowa State.
Bengals coach Dick LeBeau also likes Purdue quarterback Drew Brees, but Brees would require the use of a first- or second-round draft pick.
Cincinnati continues to be one of the busiest NFL cities because the Bengals have more salary-cap room, $14.8 million, to spend than any NFL team.
