Center award named for Rimington

The first Dave Rimington Award, named for the former Bengals center, will be announced in February.
The award will honor college football's top center, and the 2000 finalists are Nebraska's Dominic Raiola and Minnesota's Ben Hamilton.
Rimington was a consensus All-American at Nebraska in 1981 and '82 and is the only two-time winner of the Outland Trophy, which honors the nation's outstanding collegiate interior lineman.
The award is being sponsored by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which the former Bengals quarterback created to support research and treatment of cystic fibrosis — a genetic disease afflicting Esiason's 10-year-old son.
Rimington, president of the foundation since its start in 1993, was a teammate of Esiason's with the Bengals in the 1980s.
“I was kind of hesitant about having it named for me,” Rimington said Tuesday. “But Boomer and I thought it would be a great way to raise money for cystic fibrosis and also bring some attention to the center position.”
Rimington, 40, played for the Bengals from 1983-87 and then played three more seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
