Bengals rescind Dillon offer
By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Bengals' contract offer that would have made Corey Dillon the NFL's highest-paid running back has been taken off the table, Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn said Tuesday.
Dillon, who will become a free agent March 2, was offered $60 million over eight years, including $12 million to sign, his former agents said last week.
On Monday, Dillon introduced Leigh Steinberg as his new agent and repeated he didn't know about a $60 million offer.
Blackburn, the team's lead negotiator, won't comment on dollar figures, but she said the offer to Dillon was based on cap room we had before. We had something structured that put part of the money into last year, but we're no longer in last year.
She has yet to speak to Steinberg about Dillon.
But they just signed (Monday) and know everybody is here, said Blackburn, who's with the Bengals group scouting college players at the Senior Bowl.
A call Tuesday to Steinberg's California office was not returned.
