Bengals sign Gibson through 2005

By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

The Bengals have signed defensive tackle Oliver Gibson to a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2005.

        Terms were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old Gibson tied safety Cory Hall and linebacker Steve Foley for the team lead with four sacks.

Gibson also had 52 tackles and has started all 32 games in his two seasons in Cincinnati. He played his first four NFL seasons in Pittsburgh but didn't start once in 60 games.

He was drafted in the fourth round of the 1995 draft from Notre Dame. His defensive coordinator in Pittsburgh was Bengals coach Dick LeBeau.

LeBeau, who came to Cincinnati as defensive coordinator in 1997, was one reason Gibson signed as a free agent with the Bengals before the 1999 season for $3.6 million over three seasons.
