Mack's court hearing delayed
A judge on Wednesday postponed a hearing on whether Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Tremain Mack, by driving a car, violated terms of his probation for drunken driving.
Mack, also a kick returner for the Bengals, is scheduled to appear Jan. 9 in Hamilton County Municipal Court. Judge Ralph E. Winkler delayed the hearing that was to have occurred Wednesday because Mack had hired a new lawyer who requested more time to prepare his arguments.
The judge is to resolve an allegation that Mack, 26, has been driving with a suspended license. He isn't allowed to operate a vehicle until next fall under the terms of his probation.
The suspension was part of his probation since being jailed for drunken-driving arrests in 1997 and 1998. The National Football League suspended Mack for eight games without pay in 1998-99 for violating the league's substance abuse policies.
WLWT Channel 5 broadcast film in November that showed Mack driving his sports utility vehicle. Mack has declined to talk about the allegation.
The Bengals have also declined comment.
If Mack is found guilty or pleads guilty, he could serve up to a year in jail.
Mack has averaged 23 yards per kick return this season.
