Players to watch
WHEN BENGALS RUN
Lawyer Milloy was a Pro Bowler the past two seasons and appears to be headed toward a third. He leads the Patriots with 71 tackles and last week in Cleveland, because of injuries, played some linebacker.
He is an excellent run stopper and has forced three fumbles. His most recent one was against Edgerrin James. With the Bengals struggling to throw the ball, the Patriots know Corey Dillon will run 25 times. Milloy will be coming up and keying on Dillon.
WHEN BENGALS PASS
Quarterback Scott Mitchell, in his first Bengals start, wants to run plays that the team is comfortable with. Yes, they'll throw deep, but look for a lot of Brandon Bennett out of the backfield.
Bennett, who has 13 receptions for 115 yards a nine-yard average is one of the team's best receivers. He has the club record for receiving yards by a running back in one game, 119. If Mitchell doesn't see anything deep, has the decisiveness and touch to get the ball to Bennett.
WHEN PATRIOTS RUN
Left tackle Bruce Armstrong has protected Drew Beldsoe's blind side since Beldsoe came into the league, and he's going to be a factor today if the Patriots have any success running the ball.
Armstrong, who will set a New England record by starting his 207th game in row, will be matched against Cincinnati's most active and athletic defensive lineman, Michael Bankston.
Kevin Faulk leads the Patriots with 428 yards rushing. Rookie J.R. Redmond has 289 yards.
WHEN PATRIOTS PASS
Rookie cornerback Robert Bean, the Bengals' fifth-round pick, makes his first start today.
He'll have his hands full with either Terry Glenn or Troy Brown, but Bean should get a little more held today than Tom Carter got last week. Free safety Darryl Williams was brought up to help stop Emmitt Smith and the Dallas running game. New England presents no such problem.
Bean had six interceptions in two seasons at Mississippi State and blocked seven kicks.
