        • When Bengals run

Denver strongside linebacker Bill Romanowski figures to see a lot of Bengals featured back Corey Dillon today.

Romanowski, who has played in 199 consecutive games, will be blocked much of the day by Cincinnati tight end Tony McGee when the Bengals attempt to get their running game going.

Denver is second in the league at stopping the run and gives up an average of only 65 yards a game. The Bengals are 20th with 104 yards a game.

        • When Bengals pass

Bengals left tackle John Jackson will get his first Cincinnati start and is entrusted with quarterback Akili Smith's blind side.

Four times this season Smith has been sacked and had the ball stripped by defensive ends. Jackson, a Cincinnati native, will be making his 162nd start for his third team in three decades.

He repaces Rod Jones in the starting lineup. Jackson will be matched against right defensive end Kavika Pittman, who has six of the team's 25 sacks.

        • When Broncos run

Denver's fourth-ranked offense starts up front with the NFL's smallest and one of its best lines. One of the line's leaders, left guard Mark Schlereth, will not play today because of a knee injury.

Lenny Friedman, a second- year pro from Duke who was on injured reserve last season, will get his first career start.

Friedman will be up against Glen Steele, who will be starting his second consecutive game in place of Tom Barndt.

        • When Broncos pass

Rodney Heath, all 5-foot-10 of him, will be making his third consecutive start today at right cornerback in place of Artrell Hawkins.

Heath will be covering either 6-5 Ed McCaffrey (41 receptions, 523 yards) or the relatively short Rod Smith, who's 6-foot. Smith has 46 catches for 725 yards and six touchdowns.

In spite of his size, Heath has played big in his two starts against taller receivers. He is always around the ball.
