Spotlight: Right defensive ends
By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
This is one in a regular series of looks at the 2000 Bengals by position.
Projected starter: John Copeland. The former Alabama star has started 86 of his 91 games in Cincinnati. He started all 16 games after playing in only five games in 1998 because of a ruptured Achilles tendon. The 6-foot-3, 287-pound Copeland led the team with 19 quarterback hurries in 1999 and became the first defensive lineman in team history to intercept two passes in one season.
2. Michael Bankston. A ninth-year pro, he led the defensive line with 56 tackles in 1999 and is counted on the be the first player off the bench in the line's rotation this season. He had surgery Thursday on his right knee and will miss four weeks. He's 6-5, 285 and played at Sam Houston State.
3. Reinard Wilson. The former first-round pick from Florida State moves to the line after three underachieving seasons as a linebacker. The Bengals are looking for quarterback pressure this season from the 270-pound Wilson.
