BENGALS NOTEBOOK
Williams: DBs 'can only get better'
By Mark Curnutte

Bengals defensive backs made two interceptions and knocked down a few passes during drills against the offense at Wednesday morning's minicamp at Spinney Field.
To try to strengthen the league's second-worst passing defense, the Bengals signed free safety Darryl Williams earlier this offseason. He's listed as a starter on the team's depth chart, as is cornerback Tom Carter, picked up off waivers from Chicago in December.
We can only get better, said Williams, an eight-year veteran who has 29 career interceptions. If we can jell, we can be something special. We weren't a strong part of the defense last year.
BACK IN TOWN: Wide receiver Darnay Scott participated in Wednesday's voluntary session after missing Tuesday's workout.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Defensive end Vaughn Booker, a Cin cinnati native, has been on a Florida vacation this week with his wife and son to celebrate the boy's birthday.
Bengals coaches knew where he was and why he was missing voluntary camp, said Richard Katz, Booker's agent.
Booker, a projected starter at left defensive end, will be back next week for the final three days of voluntary camp, Katz said.
INJURY REPORT: Cornerback Charles Fisher is in Birmingham, Ala., having his knee examined by Dr.James Andrews.
Third-round pick Ron Dugans has a strained left hamstring and will miss the rest of the voluntary camp. Free-agent rookie receiver Lavelle Boyd of Louisville also is nursing a strained left hamstring.
Running back Michael Basnight (bruised knee) was cleared to played, and defensive lineman Andre Purvis who had a torn thigh muscle is expected to be cleared today to play.
