No reunion for Bengals, Boomer
Brown, agent agree former QB won't return
BY GEOFF HOBSON
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The agent for Boomer Esiason called the Bengals and the prospect of his client returning to the field was raised, but both sides agreed it's not in the cards.
Bengals President Mike Brown said Thursday that Jerrold Colton returned a phone message Brown had left for Esiason. But Brown said the club could consider signing Esiason only if the former Bengals quarterback played for the $700,000 salary he made in 1997, his final season.
That's not going to happen, Brown said.
Colton said Brown called Esiason to express his sympathy over his firing by ABC as its analyst for Monday Night Football.
Mike called and said how badly he felt and Boomer was very appreciative, Colton said. Let's just say (playing again) came up as a topic. But the timing has just never been right for Boomer and the Bengals the last two years and it looks like it won't ever be.
Brown left open the possibility the Bengals would consider relinquishing Esiason's rights via trade or otherwise, but no teams have called.
