Bengals history in stadium

        1970

Aug. 8 — First Bengals game in the stadium, a 27-12 exhibition victory over Washington before 52,299 — at that time, the largest crowd to attend a sporting event in Cincinnati.

        Sept. 20 — First regular-season home game, a 31-21 victory over Oakland.

Nov. 15 — The first official Bengals-Browns game in Riverfront (there was an exhibition game Aug. 30). Quarterback Virgil Carter rushes for 110 yards in a 14-10 win, and he remains the only Bengals QB to rush for 100 yards in a game.

Dec. 20 — Bengals win their first AFC Central Division title by beating the Boston Patriots 45-7, and coach Paul Brown is carried off the field.

        1971

Oct. 17 — The largest crowd to watch a sporting event in Cincinnati — 60,284 — sees the Browns beat the Bengals 27-24. The attendance remains a Cincinnati sports record.

        1975

Nov. 17 — The Bengals beat O.J. Simpson and Buffalo 33-24 in a thrilling Monday night game, as Ken Anderson throws for 447 yards to set a team record.

        1979

Oct. 14 — After starting the season 0-6, the Bengals shock Pittsburgh 34-10 at Riverfront. The Steelers eventually win the Super Bowl, while the Bengals finish 4-12.

        1981

Sept. 6 — The Bengals erase a 21-0 deficit to beat Seattle 27-21, setting the stage for their first Super Bowl season.

        1982

Jan. 10 — The Freezer Bowl. Playing in their first AFC title game, the Bengals beat San Diego 27-7 in temperatures of minus-9 degrees (minus-59 wind chill). A crowd of 46,302 attends — nearly 10,000 fewer than attended the AFC Division victory over Buffalo in relatively mild weather the previous week.

        1985

Dec. 8 — A playoff atmosphere exists as the Dallas Cowboys, the NFL's glamour franchise, make their first-ever visit to Cincinnati. The Bengals win 50-24.

        1987

Sept. 20 — The Jerry Rice game. The San Francisco 49ers stun the Bengals 27-26 on a 25-yard TD pass from Joe Montana to Rice on the final play, after Cincinnati muffed its chance to run out the clock.

        1988

Dec. 17 — The Bengals and Redskins were tied 17-17 with 11 seconds left, when Washington's Chip Lohmiller missed a 29-yard field goal. That sent it to overtime, where Cincinnati won 20-17 on a 20-yard Jim Breech field goal to clinch the AFC Central Division title.

        1989

Jan. 8 — In the AFC title game, the Bengals beat the Bills 21-10 to reach their second Super Bowl. Ickey Woods leads the way with 102 rushing yards.

Dec. 10 — With Bengal fans tossing snowballs toward the Seattle Seahawks, coach Sam Wyche grabs the stadium public address microphone and asks for calm, saying, “You don't live in Cleveland!” The Bengals lose 24-17.

Dec. 17 — The Bengals rout Houston 61-7 as coach Sam Wyche taunts his hated rival, Oilers coach Jerry Glanville, by waving goodbye afterward.

        1990

Jan. 6 — The Bengals beat Houston 41-14 in the AFC wild card playoff. It remains their last playoff victory, as they lose in the AFC Divisional round to the host L.A. Raiders the following week.

        1993

Nov. 28 — The Bengals, after a franchise-worst 0-10 start, upset the L.A. Raiders 16-10 in freezing weather.

        1994

Nov. 13 — Blakemania is in full swing. The young quarterback, filling in for injured David Klingler and Don Hollas, leads the lowly Bengals to a thrilling 34-31 win over Houston. Cincinnati goes to 2-8 after starting the season 0-8.

        1995

Dec. 24 — For the second straight year, Doug Pelfrey wins a home game on Christmas Eve with a field goal of 50-plus yards at the final gun. Pelfrey's 51-yarder beat Minnesota 27-24. The year before, his 54-yarder beat Philadelphia 33-30.

        1996

Sept. 9 — Riverfront Stadium is renamed Cinergy Field, as the power company buys the naming rights.

        1997

Dec. 4 — In a nationally televised Thursday night game, Corey Dillon rushes for 246 yards vs. Tennessee to break Jim Brown's NFL rookie record. The Bengals win 41-14.

        1999

Dec. 5 — The Bengals beat San Francisco 44-30, the first time they have beaten the 49ers since 1974.

Dec. 12 — The Bengals and Browns will meet in what is scheduled to be the final game in Cinergy Field history.
