Bengals sign No. 5 pick Williams
BY GEOFF HOBSON
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Bengals agreed to a three-year deal Tuesday with fifth-round draft pick Nick Williams, a University of Miami (Fla.) fullback, and are closing in on deals with fourth-rounder Craig Yeast and sixth-rounder Kelly Gregg.
That leaves them working on their top two picks, quarterback Akili Smith and cornerback Charles Fisher, and their last two picks, quarterback Scott Covington and defensive tackle Donald Broomfield.
Williams accounts for $211,000 of the Bengals' $4.2 million rookie pool with his $106,500 signing bonus and minimum salaries of $175,000, $250,000 and $325,000.
Also Tuesday, the Bengals played host to 49 players for the first workout of their third week of voluntary practices, including some rookies.
Veteran running back Corey Dillon, looking after his new baby, still hasn't made it. But coach Bruce Coslet remains pleased with the players who have: If you're looking for leaders, there's 50 of them out there.
