Offensive lineman Brian DeMarco, who spent the past four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, has signed a three-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, the team said Friday.

“This upgrades our line,” said coach Bruce Coslet. “Brian will challenge for a starting guard job, and he can also play right tackle. He secures our situation at right tackle in the event something should happen to Willie Anderson.”

DeMarco, 26, is 6-foot-7 and 323 pounds. He has played in five postseason games with Jacksonville.

“Brian has experience in some big games, and he's got the size that can just engulf a defensive lineman,” Coslet said.

DeMarco, an unrestricted free agent, was a second-round draft pick in 1995. He played in 56 games for Jacksonville and started 11 last season at right guard.

Terms of his contract were not disclosed.

The Bengals have lost two unrestricted free agents this offseason, but have signed two others. Cincinnati lost defensive end Clyde Simmons to Chicago and safety Sam Shade to Washington, but have signed DeMarco and nose tackle Oliver Gibson from Pittsburgh.
