Bengals land ex-Steeler note tackle
BY GEOFF HOBSON
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Nose tackle Oliver Gibson is set to sign a three-year, $3.6 million deal Monday with the Bengals, after reaching an agreement Friday.
Gibson could count as much as $1.5 million against this year's salary cap, which would leave the Bengals with about $5.5 million to spend. The team expects this year's draft picks to take up $4 million of that amount.
Gibson, a Notre Dame product, has learned from one of the best in Steeler Pro Bowler Joel Steed, but he can also play end in Dick LeBeau's 3-4 scheme.
The Bengals think Gibson has an excellent shot at starting ahead of Kimo von Oelhoffen at nose tackle, but they also haven't stopped pursuing free agent Jerry Ball.
