Wilson faces 25 years to life

LOS ANGELES — Former Bengal Stanley Wilson has been convicted of stealing about $130,000 worth of jewelry, camera equipment and other valuables from a home last year.
Wilson, who was banned from the NFL in 1989 for repeated drug offenses, is to be sentenced March 19 following his conviction Monday in West Los Angeles Superior Court. Because he has two previous burglary convictions, prosecutors will seek 25 years to life in prison under California's “three-strikes” law, Deputy District Attorney Suzanne Tragert said.
Wilson, 37, told authorities he burglarized the home on Jan. 24, 1998 because he needed money to feed his cocaine habit, Tragert said. He had done construction and landscaping work at the home about a year before the break-in, authorities said.
He was forced to sit out the 1985 and 1987 seasons for drug violations, and had been kicked off the Bengals after he was found high on drugs just before the 1989 Super Bowl.
