Round 6: WR Jason Tucker

  • Pick: Seventh (167th overall)
  • School: Texas Christian
  • Size: 6-foot-1, 182 pounds
  • Position: Wide receiver
  • History: Career appeared to be ascending when he caught 31 passes for 433 yards as a sophomore and 39 passes for 692 yards as a junior. Then he was charged with a felony stemming from a check-writing scam, which he said he committed in August, 1996. TCU suspended him for his senior season. After receiving three years' probation and a $1,000 fine, he helped authorities apprehend the scam's ringleader. 1997: Practiced football skills diligently, demonstrated by his 4.48-second clocking in the 40-yard dash at February's scouting combine at Indianapolis. Has a 37-inch vertical leap.
  • Projection: Should compete with David Dunn, James Hundon, Mike Jenkins and Chris Doering for backup receiver spot. Showed ability to release off the line of scrimmage against bump-and-run coverage and block when necessary.
